Chester MP Chis Matheson is encouraging employers to ensure the wellbeing of their workers as strict nationwide measures to contain Coronavirus are put in place.
Chris, who has been working with Cheshire West and Chester Council and other local organisations as part of a coordinated community response, says he will continue to press companies to follow guidelines and mitigate risk to their staff.
Chris said: “I have been impressed to see so many local businesses doing the right thing and taking the necessary steps to keep their staff safe during this testing time. I pay tribute to those frontline workers who are doing essential jobs to keep key services running.
However, I have also been contacted by constituents who have concerns about their workplaces and worry that the full safety precautions have not been taken. This is why I have been actively contacting companies and organisations to encourage them to follow the guidelines that we have in place, to make sure that key workers are protected and that any employees able to work from home are doing so. I am also pressing for personal protective equipment to be supplied to all frontline workers as a matter of urgency. It is imperative that those doing such vital work are given every possible protection. I will continue to press employers and the Government to ensure safe work environments nationwide.
I have been hugely impressed by the many members of our community who have joined the coordinated response, providing vital aid to the most vulnerable people in our community. I thank them for all they have done, and continue to do during this difficult period.”
