Children from Bluecoat CE Primary were delighted to welcome Chester MP Chris Matheson to visit their Enrichment Club this week. Diane Clark, founder of Passion for Learning, had invited Chris to visit the Club, which they provide each week in this location and 8 other Cheshire West primary schools.

Taking the time to play a game of Kerplunk with one of the children, Chris commented: ‘it is wonderful to see the opportunities which this Club provides for the children to learn new skills and engage with experiences which they may not otherwise encounter. It’s clear that the Passion for Learning team care very deeply about making a difference to all the children they see. I wish these enriching opportunities were available to all the children in my constituency and I hope to see Passion for Learning grow as an organisation, to reach more children and schools who would benefit from this support’.

Chris also brought his parliamentary assistant Kate with him to visit the Club, who is originally from Chester and attended a local school. Kate spoke to the children about her work in the House of Commons and her impressions of government. Kate was impressed that one of the older boys at the Club could name the Leader of the Labour party, as well as the Prime Minister.

Rachael Driver, Enrichment Clubs Manager for Passion for Learning was pleased to introduce Chris to the children attending the Club, who were taking part in an activity involving voting and ballot boxes this week. Rachael commented: ‘we recognised it was a great opportunity to talk about democracy as part of marking Chris’s visit this week. The children have loved creating their personalised voting cards, which they will now use each week to express their preference for the snack and activity choices for the following week’s session’.

Passion for Learning is a charitable volunteer organisation working with 30 primary schools across Cheshire West, providing a unique and valuable support to children who would benefit from some additional help with their learning.
