Chester MP, Chris Matheson, is preparing his team of MPs ahead of this week’s Football For Foodbanks competition in Chester.
“I put this event together to help raise funds for food poverty projects in Cheshire West and Chester over Christmas. I’ll be joined by Justin Madders MP, Ian Lucas MP and Ali McGovern MP as we go toe to toe with teams from a few of Chester’s finest organisations and groups.”
Football For Foodbanks takes place on Saturday (2nd December) at The Cheshire County Sports Club near Upton. The club has recently launched three brand new 3G pitches where the event will take place.
Assistant Manager Kevin Jones, who helped plan the event, said:
“We are delighted to support such a worthwhile local cause and look forward to see who comes out on top.”
The competition has proved to be very popular and teams have entered from Storyhouse, Brio Leisure, Muir Housing, Dandy’s Topsoil, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Street Scene Team, Health Box and Chester Labour Party, alongside local teams like Chester Nomads and Chester FC’s community squad.
Commenting on the competition, Chris said:
“They all sound a bit serious, I just hope my lot last the distance.”
The first matches start at 9.15am and the event is open to spectators.
