The message from Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy could not be clearer ahead of her speech at Saturday’s anti-fracking rally in Ellesmere Port.
Rebecca Long-Bailey MP said: “The Labour policy on fracking is very simple. We would ban it.”
Rebecca, who is Member of Parliament for Salford and Eccles, but has a local connection to Helsby, will be speaking alongside other local Labour MPs at Civic Square in Ellesmere Port as part of the United Against Fracking Rally which starts at 1pm.
Rebecca continued: “It is a signal of how little this Government care about the environment that they let this practice continue. Fracking locks us into an energy infrastructure based on fossil fuels, long after the point in 2030 when the Committee on Climate Change says gas in the UK must sharply decline. If you want fracking to stop, vote for a Labour Government.”
Saturday’s rally is a free community event and will include information stalls, food and live music, as well as speakers from other political parties and anti-fracking groups.
