Chester’s re-elected MP, Chris Matheson, is to launch a new sustainability forum in Chester this week.
The first meeting will be an informal gathering – hosted by the Crowne Plaza Hotel – and will be attended by environmental campaign groups, representatives from socially-minded private sector businesses, local government officials and has cross-party political support from local councillors and activists – including CWaC’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Karen Shore.
Chris said: “This is about bringing all the players around the table, to identify issues and how we resolve them. It’s about working together to make Chester greener and more sustainable”.
The Chester Sustainability Forum’s objective will be to improve the environmental sustainability of Chester and its surrounding area. The first formal meeting, which will take place in September, will include a presentation on Air Quality in Chester.
The group’s Secretary will be Colin Watson who is Chair of the Green Party in Cheshire West and Chester.
Colin said: “I was conscious of many groups acting individually but, following a conversation with Chris, it seemed the right thing to do to bring everyone together around the same table to share information. The group is still finding its legs and anyone with an environmental focus, either voluntary or business is welcome to join”.
The group will meet five times a year on a Thursday to discuss current initiatives and consider new ideas. For more information and to ask about joining the group, please email: email@example.com (mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org)
