Chris Matheson MP is encouraging local residents to have a free diabetes test as part of a national campaign for Diabetes Week.
Diabetes has an enormous human and economic impact in the UK. A total of 4 million people have the condition and 10% of UK health expenditure is spent on diabetes (£10 billion).
Diabetes Week runs from 12th – 18th June and it will see community pharmacies across the country carry out diabetes testing. Mr Matheson has nominated M & A Weinronk, a pharmacy on Green Lane in Chester, in an effort to increase diabetes awareness and aid easy access to testing for Chester residents. For more information, residents can contact the pharmacy on 01244 341 412.
Chris said: “Diabetes, obesity and other preventable conditions present a drastic threat for the future of our National Health Service, and affect millions of people across the UK. This is why I am so proud to be raising awareness of diabetes by encouraging constituents to get themselves tested at a local pharmacy during Diabetes Week.”
