Chester MP Chris Matheson, has hosted a major event in Westminster celebrating the success of apprenticeships in the UK Aerospace sector.

The event, organised by ADS (the UK Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space Association), was led by Chris in his capacity as Chair of Westminster’s All-Party Parliamentary Group for Aerospace.

Chris said: “Let’s not forget, the Chief Operating Officer of Airbus Group started out as an apprentice. If you have the talent and put the work in, you really can get anywhere, as long as companies like Airbus keep providing the apprenticeships – for which I am very grateful.”

Joining the MP was Stephanie Waldron, from Mollington. Stephanie is in the final year of an apprenticeship at Airbus in Broughton in supply chain management, and was one of many young people at the event from aerospace businesses from across the UK.

Chris continued: “Meeting Stephanie, my constituent, and so many other young people was inspiring – it is great to know that the future of this vital industry is in safe hands. Many local businesses are making a real contribution to the local jobs market by providing decent apprenticeships and I am determined to support that, both as MP for Chester and as Chair of the Parliamentary Aerospace Group.”

Chris also made clear that it is important for the industry and other businesses, that the UK votes to remain in the European Union on Thursday 23rd June. He spoke to the assembled meeting about the security of local jobs, the rights of employees and the benefits for the UK in providing access to our skilled labour force in a wider manufacturing market.
