Rail User Group

Following requests from constituents I will be launching a Chester Rail User Group at Chester Town Cryer Function Room (opposite Chester railway station) on Friday 22nd January from 6pm - 7.30pm.

There are two Rail User groups currently running in Cheshire, but neither look specifically at the strategic transport needs of Chester residents and businesses.  Improving the transport infrastructure in Chester is key for the long term growth of our economy. We  must attract businesses here and we must also maximise any benefits from HS2.  I am keen to help commuters and passengers have the best possible service.

There are 1 million cross border commutes every months alone between North Wales and North West England, 85% of which are by car. We need more sustainable travel options for commuters.

I look forward to seeing you on 22nd January to hear your views on how collectively we can ensure that Chester residents are getting the best from the rail service.

Having worked at Network Rail for the last 13 years, its horrible to see how costly and inefficient the railway has become due to privatisation. It has got better over the years but we are facing a very real threat of privatisation which will only send the railways backward even further.
