Chester MP Chris Matheson met Mr Koji Sekimizu, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation, this week to discuss the safety and protection of British staff on board cruise liners in foreign waters.

Chris became concerned about this issue because of his recent involvement with the Rebecca Coriam case.

Rebecca, from Guilden Sutton, was last seen just before dawn on the 22nd March 2011. She was working on a Disney Cruise Liner off the coast of Mexico and failed to report for work. There remain doubts about the original investigation into her disappearance and Chris is supporting the family's aims to have a review of the existing evidence.

Chris said: “There is something not right about this case and we have to get to the bottom of it. I have met the family on several occasions and I can see how strong is their desire for the truth to be established. It is a complex situation, but I have sought the advice of the Secretary General because I am pushing for a new investigation into what happened on board that ship.”
